2010 marks 10 years of partnership to stimulate sports medicine research

Since 2000, as part of our ongoing commitment to ‘never stop getting better’, we have provided funding for ESSKA’s biannual research grant for innovative scientific work in the field of Sport Traumatology and Rehabilitation.

Significant improvements in sports medicine techniques have been developed in recent years, but we believe there is a continuing need to improve patient outcomes after sports injuries by using new treatment methods and products based on the latest scientific research and validated by clinical studies.

The purpose of this initiative is to encourage researchers to set up professional research projects to give more scientific basis to current and future treatment methods.

A maximum budget of US$ 15,000 over two years is awarded by the ESSKA-DJO Grant Committee to the winning researcher or research centre whose research project fulfils all the selection criteria. The winner of the 2010 Award will be officially announced at the biannual ESSKA meeting in June 2010.

Winners to date have included Nicola Maffuli (UK), Uffe Jorgenssen (Denmark) and Antonio Marmotti (Italy).

Applications can be posted from late 2008 via www.esska2010.com until the deadline, October 15th 2009 so keep an eye on the ESSKA site.

The winner of the grant 2006 was Antonio Marmotti & Team from the University of Torino, Italy. He presented his 2 years research results at the ESSKA 2008 in Porto.

The title of the work: “One-stage autologous cartilage repair with chondral fragments embedded in a mixed scaffold.”
