DJO unites with Ormed to create the new Ormed.DJO

Two leading names in the fields of orthopaedics and rehabilitation were finally united on 9th April 2008, under the new banner of Ormed.DJO. Rüdiger Hausherr, President of the new company, created by the merger of DJO Germany and Ormed GmbH, welcomed the wide-ranging synergies of the union, which has created one of Europe’s largest, and most technically advanced, integrated providers of both products and services for orthopaedic and vascular rehabilitation.

At the press conference, Herr Hausherr welcomed DJO’s Chief Executive Officer Les Cross, Dr Heinz-Jürgen Eichhorn chief medical officer  of Klinik St. Wolfgang, Bad Griesbach and partner of Sporthopaedicum Straubing, Dr Andree Ellermann chief medical officer of Pforzheim’s  Arcus Sportklinik and Markus Baur, captain of TBV Lemgo, this year’s World Champion hand ball team.

“In Germany, our product portfolio is both broad and extremely well positioned. We offer three strong brands, AIRCAST, DONJOY and ORMED, all of which now come from one consolidated source,” Herr Hausherr explained..
“No other company has developed or sold more knee braces worldwide than DonJoy. Aircast offers a concept for ankle and foot injuries, proven many million times over. Ormed now supplements this unique portfolio with cutting edge medical engineering, innovative self-medication systems, a nationwide operating homecare service for Tens and CPM plus intra-operative systems, including state-of-the-art cartilage, disc and vertebral transplants and implants.”
A key objective of the merger is to ensure the continuation of all Ormed and DJO projects and systems already in place and to maintain and reinforce contact with all existing partners – namely, the medical experts, health professionals and retailers, with whom Ormed.DJO will carry on collaborating on diverse strategies, all designed to improve the lives of their patients.
The integrated firm will also continue to run its well-established and highly-regarded training programmes, developed in co-operation with its network of orthopaedists and health professionals across Germany.

Dr Heinz-Jürgen Eichhorn and Dr Andree Ellermann between them are responsible for over 7,000 knee operations each year which accounts for over 10% of Germany’s ACL operations. They both commended the company’s ongoing commitment to research. A comprehensive R&D program has already seen the development of many of the most innovative musculoskeletal products currently in use. Dr Ellermann and Dr. Eichhorn, who both specialise in knee problems, including cruciate ligament injuries, emphasized the need for continued and consistent investment into research, given the speed at which the fields of post-operative care, rehabilitation, injury prevention and sports medicine continue to advance.
