AirSport (AirGo) helps prevent German Volleyball players’ injuries
| February 2008

Corina Ssuschke and Heike Beier are two of the most exciting young members of Germany’s National Volleyball Team. Both 24 year olds currently play for the same Bundesliga team, Dresdner SC, and, according to new DVV (Deutscher Volleyball-Verband) coach, Giovanni Guidetti, both are set to play key roles in the women’s squad in 2008.

On the recommendation of Patrick Rissler, chief physiotherapist of the DVV Sports Medicine Team, the team have been wearing Aircast‘s AirSport (AirGo) ankle braces since the beginning of 2005 – with tangible results to date in the prevention of debilitating injuries, the bane of every professional sportsman’s career.

Corinna, known as Curry, owes her unusual surname to her family’s Serbian roots. She has represented Germany on more than 70 occasions, usually taking the Middle Hitter position. According to Curry, volleyball players are surprisingly injury-prone. Played at this level, the game is both extremely fast and highly competitive.

"Every time I go over on my ankle, inevitably it leads to painful ligament strain which can keep me out of the game for days at a time. Since I’ve been wearing the supports, I’ve had a much better injury record".

Team mate Heike, a defensive specialist who plays at Libero at national level, already has 29 caps for her country. To date, she has managed to escape serious injury and rates Aircast’s AirSport (AirGo) highly. "The braces come strongly recommended by our team doctor Dr Peter Jokisch and they really are incredibly comfortable. You can hardly feel them on your feet at all. More importantly, they don’t restrict your movement in any way".

Getting the Women’s National Volleyball Team to wear the AirCast (AirGo) for both training sessions and matches has really improved the injury prevention record, explains Physio Patrick Rissler: “The semi-rigid shell provides an excellent fit which, combined with the enhanced stability of the ankle joint, means that these braces are ideal for all professional sportsmen and women.“
