Tony Cairoli on Track for World Title

Tony Cairoli is more than ever the big favourite for this year’s world title. After a 1st and 3rd position in the Grand Prix of France, the DonJoy rider now has a gap in the World Championship qualification of 68 points. His rival is no longer his teammate Max Nagl, the German crashed in the qualifying heat and broke his collarbone. The Belgian Desalle is now the biggest threat for ‘Tony The Tiger’. “I’m happy with the way the World Championship is going. Here in Saint-Jean-d’Angely I scored as many points as winner David Philippaerts, but he got the overall victory because of his better second heat. But I’m still on schedule. I wanted to be in the top 5 all season long and I’m doing just that. My lead is comfortable now, but it’s a long championship. Anything can happen, but I feel good and I feel safe thanks to my knee braces. I had some big impacts on my knees on this track and my DonJoy Defiances are giving me great protection and that also helps my confidence. I’m very happy with that.”
The World Championship leader now has a break until June 20 before he heads to Germany for the 8th Grand Prix of the season.
