Steve Ramon: The Road To Recovery

At the Dutch GP in Valkenswaard on 26th April, Compex rider Steve Ramon broke his C7 vertebrae and has been out of action since then. It was Steve’s first injury in almost a decade.
“Yes, I hurt my knee back in 2000, so that is nine years. Like I said the biggest thing is dealing with how much you have to slow down in day-to-day life. It was difficult to swallow initially because I had been working hard for this season. The first two GPs weren't great but then things picked up in Turkey and I was also strong at Valkenswaard until the accident. Now I am just looking forward, I also think that I had a long period without any big problems; sometimes an injury like this can happen in the sport."
Steve had to take it easy for 2 months and couldn’t do much more than a bit of cycling. Guided by his trainer Yves De Meulemeester, the Belgian tried to stay as fit as possible, without taking any risks. That also meant using Compex to keep his muscles as fit as possible.
Since last week, he is back on his MX bike. It’s too early for competition, but he started doing some training laps at the French track of Dunquerqe. Also here, Ramon is taking no risks. The double world champ plans his return to Grand Prix racing at his home GP in Lommel.
“It’s a tough race to start with, the sand in Lommel is real heavy stuff”, Ramon says. “But I still have about a month to go. I hope i’ll be totally fit by then.”
