Cairoli on World Championship Pace

The Czech GP in Loket hasn’t been an easy one for DJO rider Antonio Cairoli. The Italian was pushed to the side of the track in the first heat and had to make a spectacular 5 meter step down jump to get back on the track. Cairoli started from the back of the pack to finish 6th. Because his only remaining rival in the championship, Max Nagl, won the race, Tony lost valuable points. “I had no other choice than to take that big jump from the side of the track”, Cairoli said afterwards. “It was crazy, I was 5 meters higher than the rest, I took a chance by jumping down and I’m glad I was wearing the DonJoy Defiance braces, they helped to absorb the big impact from the landing and kept my knees stable.”
In the second heat, Cairoli had a better start and worked his way up to 2nd position, with Nagl finishing behind him. Cairoli still holds a 45 point lead over the German.
If he succeeds in taking 5 extra points in the Dutch GP in Lierop, the DJO rider will be crowned World Champion one race before the end of his rookie season in MX1 GP’s.
