Cairoli Maintains Solid Lead

The French GP hasn’t been the easiest of races for world championship leader Antonio Cairoli. Still not 100% fit from his crash in the British GP qualifying race, the DJO rider took it easy in the start of both heats in Ernée. He finished 7th and 2nd and managed to keep a 30 point lead over reigning world champ David Philippaerts.

“I’m still a bit sore from last week’s crash in the start of my qualifier”, said Cairoli. “That’s why I didn’t go flat out in the starts, I don’t want to risk a bigger injury. My back is still completely blue from last week. We did a lot of Compex treatment this week and it has really helped the swelling to go away. Now I have a 2 week break from GP’s, so i’m sure i’ll be fully recovered at the German GP. I plan to do a national race in Belgium next week, it should be good fun. I can’t say it was fun here today. This track had only one good line and it was very hard to come back from behind, I had the same problem in Mallory Park last week. At the previous GP’s it was easy to overtake, but the last two have been hard on that part and i’m still learning to ride the 450 at its full potential, so i’ve had a hard time here in France. But i’m happy to keep a solid lead in the championship and I really look forward to the next GP.”
