Antonio Cairoli Stretches his Lead

After a thriller in Catalunya, DJO rider Antonio Cairoli now holds an even stronger grip on this year’s world championship MX1. The opening moto was difficult for the Italian double world champ. While charging for the lead, he collided with Belgian Desalle and had a small crash that knocked him back to about 20th place. Cairoli fought back and with 3 laps to go, he crashed again trying to pass Josh Coppins for 4th place. Spanish home crowd favourite Barragan won the first heat.

Tony Cairoli was back on his game in the 2nd heat. He won after he closed a 10 second gap on leader Nagl in only 4 laps. That win gave him 3rd place in the GP and the Donjoy rider extends his lead in the championship to 31 points.

“I was a bit over enthusiastic trying to come back from behind in the first race”, said the leader in the world championship. “My last crash was a pretty nasty one. I landed hard on my feet and I’m happy with the support my Donjoy braces give me. My knee could have been badly hurt with that landing. Now I can look forward to the UK GP in 2 weeks knowing I’m in good health and with a solid points lead.”
